Microchipping

At Lathlain Vet Clinic, it is always distressing to see lost pets, which is why we strongly recommend that all dogs and cats are microchipped. We also advise the use of an ID tag on your pet’s collar, as this can help ensure a quicker reunification if they become lost.

Microchipping is a safe, quick procedure involving the insertion of a tiny chip (approximately the size of a grain of rice) under the skin at the back of your pet’s neck. If a lost pet is brought to a clinic or ranger, a microchip scanner can immediately identify the unique number and help reunite them with their owner.

Legal requirements

Microchipping is a legal requirement in Western Australia under the Dog Act 1976 and Cat Act 2011, with most dogs and cats required to be microchipped and registered with an approved database. This helps ensure lost pets can be safely identified and returned to their owners as quickly as possible.
