Heartworm Prevention in Dogs

Heartworm disease is a serious and potentially fatal condition transmitted by mosquitoes. The parasites can grow within the heart and pulmonary arteries, leading to heart failure if left untreated.

Prevention is essential, as treatment can be complex, costly, and not always successful. It is important to note that standard intestinal “all-wormer” treatments do not protect against heartworm infection.

Fleas and Tick Prevention

Fleas are the most common external parasite seen in cats and dogs. They can cause intense itching, skin irritation, hair loss, and allergic dermatitis, and may also transmit other parasites.

Ticks also pose a serious health risk, particularly when travelling with pets. In addition to causing paralysis in some cases/areas, ticks can transmit infectious diseases, including Ehrlichia canis, which in now in Western Australia.
